GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The U.S. Labor Department announced Tuesday that in June, employers advertised the highest number of monthly job openings in more than 13 years. At the same time, some industries in West Michigan have a number of well-paying open positions that they can’t seem to find the workers to fill.

… Four months ago, OST partnered with economic development group The Right Place and places like Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College, Kent Intermediate School District and Spectrum Health to form West Michigan Tech Talent a group focused on attracting and retaining technology workers in West Michigan.

Understanding more about dementia

Grand Rapids Jazz Festival: Two days, 10 acts, totally free, opens Saturday

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Grand Rapids Jazz Festival is back.

… Local favorites performing in Rosa Parks Circle include Cooper, Hay, Van Lente Group; and vocalist Edye Evans Hyde and the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra in the festival co-sponsored by the City of Grand Rapids.

West Michigan-based acts also include Evidence Jazz Group led by saxophonist Michael Doyle; and Grupo Aye, which was part of the inaugural GRandJazzFest lineup.

Plans in works for Exercise Science Club

The Exercise Science department is in the process of developing an Exercise Science Club at GRCC.  The club will present many opportunities for students who are considering careers in things like athletic training, fitness, strength and conditioning, physical therapy, physical education, personal training, group exercise instruction, cardiac rehabilitation, and many other related fields.

We  are currently planning opportunities throughout the year including monthly meetings, field trips, guest speakers, service learning, special events, and MORE.  If you would like more information about the Exercise Science Club, please email laurakennett@grcc.edu (Laura Kennett).

GRCC celebrates Higher Learning Commission’s praise

In April, GRCC hosted the Higher Learning Commission site visit. And because of YOU, the visit was a huge success! Words the HLC reviewers used to describe you and your work: pioneers, exemplary, exceeds expectations, highly organized, pride, high quality, and best practice.

This is reason to celebrate! As a show of appreciation, there will be a lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center Multi-Purpose Room on Monday, August 18 and in the Sneden Hall Multi-Purpose Room on Wednesday, August 20.
