Volunteers needed for Story Van during ArtPrize

As you know, Art Prize begins next week.  Kendall College has agreed to the GRCC Story Van being set up on Pearl Street by the old art museum on the first day of Art Prize voting, which is Wednesday, September 24th.

The van will be set up at 11 a.m. to record birthday wishes and/or GRCC stories.  We are looking for volunteers to help out.  If you have an hour or two and would like to help, let Liz Timmer know at ltimmer1@comcast.net. Email her the time you are available.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Fall enrollment is down 5.4 percent at Grand Rapids Community College, the steepest drop in the schools fall headcount since a downward slide that began in 2011.

24 years of tradition: Rockford to induct hall of fame athletes

ROCKFORD, MI — Two athletes and two coaches are to be inducted into the Rockford High School Athletic Hall of Fame this fall.

… In 1994 she (Shannon Fletcher) and her high school sweet heart, Mike Mengyan, were married and over the next four years had three daughters, Ashley, Taylor and Jessica. In 2000 Shannon enrolled in a nursing program at Grand Rapids Community College graduating in the top five percent of her class with a 3.9 GPA.

Changes made to policies

Changes were recently made to several college policies:

Effective July 1, 2014

  • Revised the Withdraw and “I” policy language.

–Language regarding the potential impact of W grades on financial aid and at transfer schools was added.

–A statement indicating that the incomplete grade is only applicable in extenuating circumstances was added. A statement regarding the approximate portion of the course that must be completed (90%) in units of time or points before an incomplete grade can be assigned was added.

  • This policy was revised to include a classroom and campus policy. Children accompanying visitors, employees or students of GRCC must be under the constant supervision of a responsible adult while on GRCC property.

  • This policy was reviewed and upon review of bench marking data, the team determined that GRCC’s ACT composite score of 18 was consistent with other community colleges. No change was made.

Effective July 1, 2014

  • Captioning in a given situation may be Required, Advised, or Not Required, as indicated in the full policy. This policy complies with a federal mandate to provide access to equal and effective communication for all students, staff, and community members. The purpose of this policy is to make the campus community aware of our responsibility, resources available to address shortcomings, and appropriate courses of action to take in select scenarios.

SSPD Grants: September 2014 Funding Opportunity

The deadline for the submission of grant applications for the Support Staff Professional Development (SSPD) program is 4:30 p.m., September 19, 2014. The SSPD application packet and SSPD Guidelines are available in the GRCC Internal Grants area of the Grants Office website at www.grcc.edu/sspdgrants.
