“A Journey in Their Shoes,” a Domestic Violence Awareness Month event, is designed to help participants begin to understand the issues, barriers to seeking help, and the emotions that victims and survivors of domestic violence experience each day. During the simulation, participants play the role of a victim or survivor of domestic violence and experience the responses they often receive from family, friends and community members. A facilitated discussion will follow the activity, which will allow participants to reflect on their experience and further understand the issue and resources available to someone experiencing domestic violence.
The event, which is co-hosted by Safe Haven and GVSU’s Women’s Center, will be held 6:30 p.m. October 29 at Rockford Construction Company, 610 First St. NW. You do not need to register in advance.
