Film screening on January 17 to benefit SICE

How much do you love coffee? Here’s a chance to learn more about it! Ferris Coffee & Nut Co. is hosting a screening of “A Film About Coffee” and proceeds will benefit the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education.

The film starts at 8:30 p.m. January 17 at the Wealthy Street Theater, 1130 Wealthy St. SE. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door or by clicking here. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the event includes coffee, beer and prizes!

“A Film About Coffee” follows the production of coffee from farms in Honduras and the harvests of Rwanda to its global consumption. Farmers, buyers, roasters and baristas talk about the crop’s economic and environmental implications, and the narrative travels to coffee shops in Tokyo, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and New York.

Pearl Street to close January 17

Here’s a road closing that you might want to keep in mind if you’re planning to drive in the GRCC area this weekend: Pearl Street is scheduled to be closed from Ottawa to Ionia avenues on January 17 so equipment can be lifted to buildings.

The city is suggesting the following detours:

  • eastbound — Ottawa to Fountain to Ionia to Pearl.
  • westbound — Ionia to Lyon to Ottawa to Pearl.
