New ‘Change Agent Award’ goes to co-founders of GRCC program for black males

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – – Two men whose leadership program has helped male black students triple their achievement levels at Grand Rapids Community College in just two years will be the first recipients of the Change Agent Award created by the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College faculty members spoke out Monday in support of adding domestic partner benefits for unmarried couples, saying that in their absence, gays are in effect discriminated against.

Northview Public Schools, MI — To honor Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Breton Downs Elementary students held signs expressing Freedom, Peace and Love during a silent march near their school in memory of the civil rights activist.

… Some two dozen students from Northview’s East Campus High School joined the annual King Day March at Grand Rapids Community College. Three teachers accompanied the students on a noon march beginning at the Ford Fieldhouse.

World Affairs Council kicks off discussion series with NPR correspondent analyzing digital privacy

The Great Discussion Series from the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan will begin Monday, Feb. 2, with Aarti Shahani, National Public Radio’s technology correspondent, as the featured guest.

… World Affairs Council of West Michigan’s educational partners and corporate members attend free, as do students, faculty and staff of participating schools including Aquinas College, Davenport University, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, Montcalm Community College, and Western Michigan University.

YMCA event includes free food, activities

GRCC’s Campus Activities Board is sponsoring Night@the YMCA from 7:30-11 p.m. January 31 at the downtown Y on Lake Michigan Drive NW!

All GRCC students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend — just show your Raider Card! Activities include basketball, volleyball, swimming, rock-climbing and track, and free food and refreshments will be available!

Transfer event to be held January 28

A new kind of transfer event for students will be held on Jan. 28, 2015, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the third floor of the student center. Students will have an opportunity to meet with university representatives to learn general information, plus each university will have financial aid, academic advisors, and admissions specific representatives.  GRCC will also have representatives from the Counseling and Career Center, Financial Aid, Student Life and Student Records to assist students with the steps they should take to for a successful transfer.A flight plan will be provided to attendees to help you navigate the event, provide sample questions to ask at the tables, and provide additional information such as a step by step transfer check list.  All students who attend and collect stamps at six or more tables in their booklet will be placed into a drawing for prizes.The following universities will be at this event:

  • Grand Valley State University
  • Western Michigan University
