New adviser to push skilled trades issues for Snyder

Detroit Gov. Rick Snyder has tapped a veteran West Michigan public school superintendent to be his new senior education adviser focused on improving the state’s pipeline of skilled trades workers.
… As head of the Ottawa ISD, (Karen) McPhee has overseen a technical education program that partners with area schools, businesses and Grand Rapids Community College to help students find career pathways in the skilled trades, according to Snyder’s office.
Eagles rebound, take pair from Grand Rapids

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 2, 2015) — The TCC Eagles sweep a doubleheader from Grand Rapids Community College, 7-3 in Game One and 16-2 in Game Two at Eagle Field on Monday.
Lady Pioneers take first two from Cleveland State

GALLATIN — It wasn’t an ideal way to open the season for the Volunteer State Community College softball team, but Sunday’s doubleheader against visiting Cleveland State produced ideal results.
… Vol State was originally scheduled to play Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College in a doubleheader on Sunday. It would have given the Lady Pioneers four games that day, but rain prevented that from happening. The first game which began shortly after 7 p.m. was stopped in the fourth inning after field conditions became unplayable, and the contest had not reached the point of being ruled official.

ESP Learning Day 2015 – Thank you!
Thank you to Tamber Bustance, Chris Arnold, and Eric Williams in the Woodrick Diversity Learning Center for presenting at the 2015 ESP Learning Day! You did an outstanding job. This event could not have happened without the help of Klaas Kwant and Tim Zerfas in Media, Bayard Brooks and Becky Yoder in ATC Conference Services, Josh Ferguson and his staff in Secchia Banquet Services, and Julie Otte and Jennifer Kelly in Staff Development. It was a wonderful event because of the support from an amazing team. Thank you all!
DeVos campus to be site of training exercise
The GRCC Police Department will be conducting a training exercise on Thursday March 5 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm at the Administration building on the DeVos campus. There will be a large police presence at and near the building. The building and part of the parking lot will roped off during the exercise. Police officers as well as police academy students will be in the parking lot to help facilitate parking needs. All cars will need to enter and exit through the north driveway off of Prospect Ave. That driveway will remain open during the exercise. Staff needing to access the Sneden lot through the Admin parking lot will still be able to do so. From 10:00 am to 11:00 pm there will be limited access to the administration building. Please work with the police officers and the academy students during this time if you need to access the building.
