Celebrate Math Awareness Month

April is Math Awareness Month. Find out more at mathaware.org

So So here’s the contest………

In honor of GRCC celebrating 100 years, a new building containing 100 classrooms is built. It is named Euclid Hall. (Okay, so I am making all of that up but it is for the sake of the contest.) All 100 classrooms are locked. During the night each of 100 facilities technicians visits the rooms. The first technician visits every room. The second technician visits room 2,4,6,… etc (every 2nd room), the third technician visits rooms 3,6,9,..etc (every third room), the fourth technician visits every fourth room, and so on until the 100th technician visits the 100th room. On a visit each unlocks the door if it is locked or locks the door if it is unlocked. In the morning, how many rooms are left unlocked?

Send your entry to Nancy Forrest in the Math Department (nforrest@grcc.edu) by 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 17. Include your email address so that we can contact you if you win a prize. Also please indicate if you are a student or staff member. The contest is open to any GRCC student or staff member. Of all correct entries, five students and five staff members will be randomly drawn to receive a prize.
