Preview: Byron Center baseball squad features senior pitching and maturing offense

Every high school baseball coach would love to have both experienced senior pitchers and experience senior bats, but given that rarely happens, Byron Center baseball coach Jeff Gdowski would much rather have his returning senior pitchers Tyler Pols and Duncan Patterson and fellow senior catcher Reece Klocke won’t hurt either.

… Pols, a pitcher and outfielder who is committed to Grand Rapids Community College for next year, is a 4-year varsity player who earned all-conference and all-district pitcher honors in 2014. He had two no-hitters and has already thrown his first one of this season, a 10-0, 5-inning win over Comstock Park on March 31 in which he struck out 11 and walked only two. He ended last season with a 4-2 record and a 0.82 ERA while striking out 78 in 42 innings.

Additional volunteers needed for commencement

We will be celebrating our Commencement on Friday, May 1st, at 7:00 pm. This year, we will be in the Van Andel Arena for the first time, so we are seeking more volunteers than normal to help our students and their families have a wonderful evening.

If you have always wanted to help with Commencement or have never known that was an option, please consider yourself invited to help at this great event! We will likely need volunteers to arrive around 4/4:30 pm (still being determined) and most volunteers will not need to stay once the event begins (unless you want to).

Please contact Sara Dorer at sdorer@grcc.edu or x3924 if you are willing to volunteer!
