GRCC board, administrators divided over raising employee pay

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A divided Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees approved new contracts most of which contained relatively modest pay increases for several employee groups Monday evening.

MCC teams with Davenport for nursing program

SIDNEY — As soon as this summer, nursing students at Montcalm Community College (MCC) will have classes available to them to where they can work toward a bachelor’s degree more conveniently, thanks to a new coordinated agreement with Davenport University.

… (Amy) Eady initially worked with Sandra Welling, Davenport’s health professions associate dean, to help bring the concurrent student program to fruition at MCC, noting that Davenport’s concurrent student program has helped nursing students at Northwestern Community College in Traverse City move up from the ADN program into the BSN program. Other community colleges, like Grand Rapids Community College, are coming on board with the program, as well.

Kyle Crane earns Chick Evans Scholarship as Blythefield caddy

ROCKFORD – While three members of two-time OK Red Conference champion Rockford boys golf team earned college scholarships for their play on the golf course this spring, classmate Kyle Crane looped his way in.

… This spring, the Rockford boys golf team won its second straight OK Red championship and posted a top-five finish at the Division 1 state finals for the second consecutive season. Three players from that team – Joel Pietila (Hillsdale), Michael Cooper (Davenport), and Josh Stephan (Grand Rapids Community College) – earned golf scholarships.

… Crane will begin his studies at Michigan State University after completing one year at Grand Rapids Community College. He said he intends to complete a degree in chemical engineering at MSU.

APSS Relay for Life team still accepting donations

At the closing of Relay for Life on Saturday morning, the GRCC APSS team had raised $1,596.47. The final deposit is due next Wednesday at the final Team Captain Meeting. We are only $1,000 away from our goal of $2,500. Let’s give it all we’ve got and push to meet that goal! Staci Dever still has paper cupcakes that sell for $1 each. These can be posted in your office to show your support for the American Cancer Society. Thank you all so much, you are all fantastic!
