Recognizing innovative college student retention programs
Ruffalo Noel Levitz (blog)
Earlier this year, I wrote about why we need to hear about college retention programs that are working. I shared that we have the opportunity to learn from the excellent retention programs that are making a difference in student success across the county. Part of my intention in writing that blog was to encourage institutions to apply for the 2015 Lee Noel and Randi Levitz Retention Excellence Awards (REAs). More than 165 colleges and universities have received this award since the REAs began in 1989, and I am excited to share the three institutions (and their retention programs) that are joining this prestigious list in 2015:
… Grand Rapids Community College: FastTrack
Advance All-Area Girls Water Polo Team
July 3, 2015; MLive
Two-thirds of this year’s Advance All-Area Girls Water Polo Team return for at least one more season, meaning Hudsonville, Rockford, and Jenison will have ample direction.
… LEXI CHISHOLM
… A valued leader for the sixth-ranked Rams, Lexi earned second-team all-state honors. One of seven seniors on the Rockford roster this season, Lexi will be attending Grand Rapids Community College in the fall.
Advance All-Area North Baseball Team
July 3, 2015; MLive
This year’s Advance North All-Area Baseball Team features a number of talented players from some of the most successful teams in West Michigan. Kenowa Hills reached the Division 1 state semifinals, while Rockford and West Catholic both won district titles.
… COREY STANKUS
… Corey did the job in the classroom and on the field. A two-time academic all-state player and all-district catcher, Corey hit .367 this season. Heading to Grand Rapids Community College, Corey drove in 20 runs, with eight doubles and a triple, and also stole eight bases. As a catcher, only two runners were successful all year stealing off him.
