Tapping Wages for Training

Companies teaming up with local colleges and universities to develop employee training programs isn’t new. But a program in Michigan has found success with an unusual way to fund these programs.

… Some of the new employees may already be enrolled as students at the college, or they may be recruited as new employees outside of the college by the employer, said Steve Ender, president of Grand Rapids Community College.

Restaurant Week Grand Rapids starts Wednesday

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — Restaurant Week Grand Rapids kicked off Wednesday with more than 60 local restaurants participating in the sixth annual event.

… One dollar from each meal eaten during Restaurant Week will go to the Grand Rapids Student Scholarship Fund at Grand Rapids Community College.

Electricity to shut down throughout campus on Friday night

There will be a power shutdown for electrical switchgear cleaning and testing Friday night at the times listed below, the length of the outages will vary, but three to five hours is expected per building. All power should be restored before 4am, Saturday morning.

  • Sneden Hall, Administration, natatorium and MTEC to be shut down at 6pm.
  • ATC and Spectrum Theater electricity to stay on until after the performance and everyone has left the building, including the actors.
  • Calkins Science, Main/Cook, Music, Learning Center, Data Center and the Student Center around 10pm.

MOVED BACK TO STUDENT CENTER

The following departments of Student Success & Retention have returned to the Student Center
  • Dean’s Office
  • Associate Dean’s Office
  • Counseling & Career Services
  • Occupational Support/Disability Support Services
Disability Support Services Testing will be moving back on Monday, August 17; and Testing Services will be moving back on Tuesday, August 18.
