Admissions welcomes 2 recruiters

The Admissions Office is pleased to announce two new part-time recruiters to assist with recruiting and enrollment initiatives at GRCC. Please welcome Sarah McNees and Sam Cho if you see them around campus or at community events.

Hello Raiders, my name is Samuel Cho and I am a new Admissions Assistant at GRCC. I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea for 16 years and moved to the U.S. in 2006. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science degree from GVSU where I majored in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Currently I am a second year graduate student in the College Student Affairs Leadership program at GVSU. I enjoy learning different cultures. I was a member of nine different cultural organizations in GVSU and currently I’m an Alumni Adviser for GVSU Asian Student Union. I enjoying playing tennis, board games, and hanging out with friends and family.

My name is Sarah McNees and I am new to the Admissions Department in the role of an Admissions Assistant. I will be helping recruit high school students to GRCC from school presentations to behind the scene work. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University May of 2014. This fall I will be attending Grand Rapids Theological Seminary to receive my Master’s in Counseling. My husband and I have been in the Grand Rapids area for a year now. Since then, I have become very involved with student ministries through Valley Church, serving in the area and overall enjoying the city of Grand Rapids. Please feel free to introduce yourself to me as I would love to meet you and hear about what capacity you serve at GRCC.

Holland resident to compete in Miss Michigan USA pageant

… After graduating from South Lyon High School, (Lindsay) O’Leary attended Hope College for one year and then enrolled in Grand Rapids Community College. She’s studying criminal justice and works at the Wooden Shoe restaurant.

Former Montague star QB Cody Kater leaves playing career behind, turns to coaching at alma mater

MONTAGUE, MI — There was a double take because of the bushy beard.

… As a high school senior, (Cody) Kater made a verbal commitment to Central Michigan University, but switched to Cincinnati when the Bearcats hired away coach Butch Jones from CMU. Kater followed, but decided to transfer after one semester. He enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College and led the team to an 11-0 season, then went to CMU.

New soccer league encourages neighbors to have fun, build community

Aug. 18, 2015;

Grand Rapids has a new local community soccer league: the GR Champions League. It was started “to celebrate and connect the unique citizens and neighborhoods of Grand Rapids through the power of the beautiful game.” Teams from different neighborhoods play each other once a week throughout the summer and early fall at area soccer fields.

… So far, the six neighborhood teams include Deportivo Westside playing at Harrison Park Elementary, the Downtown Heartsiders playing at Heartside Park, Eastown United playing at Wilcox Park, FC Southtown playing at Burton Elementary, the Heritage Hill Lyons playing at GRCC and Southeast United playing at Congress School.
