River City Cup and Cake brings espresso, pastries to Grand Rapids food truck scene

River City Cup and Cake is a new expresso and pastry food truck in Grand Rapids. Lorin W. Tate opened on August 30 and has been busy ever since, serving ArtPrize visitors downtown. Currently he’s located on the riverside behind DeVos Convention Center, right across from the bridge from the Gerald R. Ford Museum.

… Tate’s cousins Sonia White and Eric Hartfield Jr. are helping him during ArtPrize. White is a chef and manager herself, and Hartfield has worked in his father’s restaurants and gone to the culinary school at Grand Rapids Community College.

The art of dance

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) — ArtPrize is open to all forms of art, including dance. Dance is a great way to participate in art from ballet to hip hop to contemporary dance.

… An ArtPrize artist is using a unique form of dance for his 2015 entry. Michael Sepanik’s Dust Dancing captures the passion and energy of dancers as they perform in a cloud of dust. Sepanik is a student at Ferris State University studying Digital Animation and Game Design. Dust Dancing is on display at the GRCC Spectrum Theater lobby on Fountain NE.

SmartArt Competition Winner From Grand Rapids Public Schools is Announced

ArtPrize has just announced the top 20 in the public voting for the top prizes in 2015, however an art winner has already been announced in another art competition.

… The Top 20 were then judged by a panel of experts from Kendall College of Art & Design at Ferris State University, Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. About two weeks ago, Consumers Energy and GRPS hosted the Top 20 students and their teachers at the districts headquarters to announce the Top 10 finalists and to celebrate everyones achievements. The remaining top finalists received a variety of prizes; all 20 students received a special T-shirt with all of their names included on the back and a rendering of the Top 10 banner on the front.
