IONIA — The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office is welcoming a new deputy to the force.
… (Derrick) Madsen is also a 2014 graduate of Grand Rapids Community College with a degree in criminal justice. The FTO program teams new officers up an experienced or senior member of the department as they learn the ropes of procedure.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – As she walked into Grand Rapids Community College Saturday, Keli Christopher’s goal was twofold. She wanted to introduce black students to careers in science, technology, engineering and math, and she wanted to convince them that the best place to pursue such careers was historically black colleges and universities, or HBCUs.
