Raider Salute to human resources staff

A big THANK YOU to Maria Belmares Herrera and Amy Robinson in Human Resources. They’ve been doing great work to assist all employees through their decisions with the current open enrollment benefits period. The open houses have been well attended (and employees appreciate the opportunity to see them around campus!). The benefits fair yesterday was well organized and well attended.

Thank you to all of the other Human Resources employees who volunteered to help staff the Benefits Fair. You all do such great work to serve our employees here at GRCC!

Visual arts department to hold Portfolio Day

GRCC’s visual arts majors will participate in the third annual Portfolio Day on October 30. Representatives from Aquinas College, the College for Creative Studies, Kendall College of Art and Design, the University of Michigan and Michigan State, Grand Valley State and Western Michigan universities will review the work of more than 80 GRCC students!

Students have received great feedback during past Portfolio Days. Some have even been offered scholarships while others were told they would be accepted to colleges with potential scholarships as soon as they formally applied.

Radiologic technology department holds retreat

The Rad Tech Department held its annual Clinical Instructor Retreat on Friday, October 16, 2015. Representatives from all of our Clinical sites were in attendance. GRCC faculty and Clinical Instructors worked on a variety of tasks. Those tasks included the development of a Social Media Policy for the Rad Tech Handbook, a Digital equipment student safety form, evaluation of current clinical competency exams, and revision of our current Student Handbook. In addition, our online documentation system was reviewed and evaluated. In the afternoon, everyone was treated to a pastry demonstration by Chef Gilles and his student helpers, Marcel Morris and Jesse Ortiz. The demonstration included a poached pear puff pastry with Almond and Chantilly cream. The group came away with many baking techniques and even a bar trick! Thank you, Chef Gilles and your assistants. Everything was delicious!
