Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. celebrated at GRCC

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) – There were memorial services and remembrance events honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. around Grand Rapids Monday, and while the community has come a long way, the dream may not yet be fully realized.

At Grand Rapids Community College, singing, poetry, and speeches reminded people of a man who gave his life in the fight for equality. Master of ceremonies L.C. Cooper explained the events’ purpose: “Raising awareness for younger students, high school students in the Grand Rapids area.” The cold weather did cancel a planned silent march, but there were still learning opportunities, Cooper said. “More than anything, [I hope] they go and find out more about MLK. I hope this is kind of a spark.”
