LANSING — Four Michigan schools have received the prestigious Excellence in Practice Awards from the Michigan Department of Education, recognizing exemplary practices in preparing Michigan’s students for careers and higher education.

Capital Area Career Center, Culinary Arts and Hospitality

… Program students earn postsecondary credit at Davenport University, Ferris State University, Lansing Community College, Henry Ford Community College, Washtenaw Community College, Jackson College, Grand Rapids Community College, Sullivan University, the Art Institute International Culinary School, Johnson & Wales University, and Baker College.

 

Nominations sought for Emeritus Faculty Award

You are invited to nominate a GRCC retired faculty or administrator for the Emeritus Faculty Award. This award was established in 1985 to honor those instructors/administrators whose dedication and creativity have left an indelible mark on the lives of students and colleagues at GRCC. During their tenure at GRCC and since their retirement, they have continued to promote GRCC’s “Commitment to Excellence.”

Active Shooter Response Training

RUN! HIDE! FIGHT! Join us for a 90 minute Active Shooter training session presented by our very own Police Chief, Rebecca Whitman. This course will describe what an active shooter is, detail the “Run, Hide, Fight” response, explain ways to recognize and report potential threats to our campus, as well as answer any questions you may have. Whether you’re a new employee completing compliance trainings or an existing employee who would like a refresher, we would love to have you join us on Monday, February 8th from 3:00pm – 4:30pm.

Learn about, or refresh your memory, on the GRCC Ethics standards! Kathy Keating will be presenting on the meaning and principles of ethics, as well as how to understand and use the GRCC Ethics Monitoring System on Wednesday, February 10th from 9:30am – 11:30am.

Faculty/Staff cap and gown orders due by February 26!

The GRCC Bookstore is taking orders for caps and gowns for staff and faculty through February 26th. If you are in need of any commencement regalia, please stop in the bookstore and fill out the form to order yours today! Due to turnaround time and production needs, all orders and prepayments must be in by February 26, 2016, to be ready in time for the April GRCC Commencement ceremony.

Scholarship Workshop offered by College Success Center

Do your students know about their scholarship opportunities? The College Success Center is offering three dates this month to assist students in applying for the GRCC Foundation Scholarship and the Grand Rapids Foundation Scholarship. This workshop is meant to guide students through the application process and give them tips on what makes a strong scholarship application.

Dates: Tuesday February 9th 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm, Thursday February 11th 9:00 am – 10:00 am, Wednesday February 17th 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm.
