High impact snowstorm forces 2 colleges to cancel classes

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The two largest colleges in West Michigan have canceled Wednesday night classes as a winter storm expected to dump up to a foot of snow hit the region.

Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College announced the closings before 4 p.m. Wednesday, spreading word via social media, their websites and student notification lists.

Must Have Dessert: Chef Dana trained at Grand Rapids Community College’s culinary arts program and then worked at several GR-area restaurants. She is now part of a team making the Clifford Lake Inn in Stanton a destination restaurant after closing for more than a year. Not only did the restaurant make the Top 10 of Michigan’s Best Mac and Cheese, its is known for desserts, too. Diners have been known to get unruly if the famous Tiramisu sells out. It is pretty fantastic. I also recommend the Key Lime Pie with fresh lime juice from Key West, and the dark chocolate creme brulee.

Dancing with the Local Stars makes ‘Motown Memories’ with eclectic show

MUSKEGON, MI — The show was titled “Motown Memories,” but everything from salsa and samba to jazz and jive was on display during the opening night of Dancing with the Local Stars.

… Morris’ Critic’s Choice Award was given to Fox 17 reporter Cassy Arsenault and Grand Rapids Community College Dance Instructor Patrick Johnson for their energetic jazz dance to “Move” by Little Mix.

A glimpse of Flint from on the ground: GRCC students bring water to poisoned city

Theresa Tran is co-president of the Asian Student Union at Grand Rapids Community College. Tran recently spearheaded a water drive for Flint at GRCC and, along with other ASU volunteers, distributed more than 45 cases of water to the people of Flint.
