Affordable housing, development & more: Commissioner Joe Jones spells out his vision for 2nd Ward

From increasing affordable housing and addressing concerns about development to tackling racial disparities and strengthening LGBTQ protections, Grand Rapids’ newest city commissioner and the first black commissioner to represent the Second Ward, Joe Jones, has big plans to work for a more inclusive and equitable city that treats all of its residents with dignity.

… Additionally, the commissioner stresses the work being done by groups and institutions like the Urban League, Grand Rapids Community College, the Kellogg Foundation, and more to provide job training programs, particularly for individuals in marginalized, low-income communities.

Geography and Planning Department changes name

To represent a growing commitment to sustainability, the Geography and Planning Department at Grand Valley has officially changed its name to Geography and Sustainable Planning.

… For the newly christened Geography and Sustainable Planning Department, making the world a better place begins in West Michigan through the Engaged Department Initiative. The department is one of three at Grand Valley leading the initiative in collaboration with Grand Rapids Community College and Aquinas College. The other Grand Valley departments include anthropology and hospitality and tourism management.

Latino Student Support seeks mentors

Mentoring program seeks magazine, newspaper donations

The A.L.A.S. mentoring program is organizing a vision board activity for its mentors and mentees. As part of the activity, we will be using magazines, newspapers or any type of printed material. If you have any of these materials and no longer have use for them, please consider donating them to the College Success Center, located at the DeVos campus, or contact us at 616-234-3162.

Campus Dining spring break hours

Campus Dining’s retail locations (The Raider Grille, The Quiet Cafe & The Sneden Cafe) will be closed March 7th – March 11th and will reopen during the regular business hours on Monday, March 14th.
