Grand Rapids Team of the Week: Northview girls soccer enjoying unprecedented success

GRAND RAPIDS — Northview players passed around a soccer ball before practice Tuesday afternoon, and each one took a moment to sign her name.
… (Mark) VanSlooten graduated from Northview in 1979, and he played football for the Wildcats and later at Grand Rapids Community College, too. He did enjoy playing club soccer and later started coaching it when his children came along, including son T.J. VanSlooten, who completed his senior season at the University of Michigan last fall. VanSlooten is an attorney who works with abused and neglected juveniles, so he has a passion for working with youths.
Lakewood’s Albert signs with Grand Rapids CC

LAKE ODESSA — Playing college basketball really wasn’t a thought for Lakewood senior Maddie Albert. It was a sport that she enjoyed playing. As her senior year wound down, her first and last at Lakewood, she heard about Grand Rapids Community College from one of the coaches at Lakewood.

Ludington’s No. 1 doubles team of seniors Julia Flewelling and Claire Maltbie turned in a record-breaking performance in Thursday’s Division 3 regional tournament held at Ferris State University.
… Upon graduating, Flewelling will play tennis for Albion College, while Maltbie will play basketball for Grand Rapids Community College.
