United Way stories of impact: The odds of earning a H.S. diploma

GRCC employees do a great job of supporting our community through their annual commitment to the West Michigan Heart of United Way. Each month we are sharing a story that demonstrates the outcomes of your commitment.

Schools of Hope volunteers know that students who don’t read proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely to leave school without a diploma. They are investing in their community by working one-on-one with Grand Rapids Public School students for 30 minutes each week.

Competency hearing ordered for man accused of murder on GRCC campus

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The man accused of killing a woman and dragging her body on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College will undergo a competency exam, a judge decided Tuesday.

Effort to memorialize Kozminski, other fallen GRPD officers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Family, friends and community members are working to build a memorial for fallen Grand Rapids Police Officer Robert Kozminski in a park on the city’s West Side.

… The fundraising effort, organized in partnership with the West Grand Neighborhood Association, aims to raise $30,000 to install the memorial and another $35,000 to contribute to the Robert A. Kozminski Memorial Scholarship, which pays for one year of full tuition at Grand Rapids Community College for a student whose goal is to work in law enforcement. The recipient is chosen by Kozminski’s parents.

GRCC golfer Devin Capron finishes tied for 78th at NJCAA nationals

Plymouth, Ind GRCC’s Devin Capron tied for 78th overall in the 2016 NJCAA DII National Tournament at the Swan Lake Resort with rounds of 79, 74, 82, and 80 to finish his freshman season at GRCC strong while competing at the highest level.

Team seeks runners for area races

The GRCC Running Team is competing in the 2016 Triple Crown Series of races that includes two 5K runs in June.  All GRCC staff members and spouses are welcome to join the team.  If you are interested in participating, sign up via the website links listed below.
