In August, about 80 Latino students and their families will be welcomed at Grand Valley State University for the third annual Laker Familia, an orientation specific to Latino/a students.

… Our work for and with Latino/a students goes beyond Grand Valley’s campus. To name a few examples, we have partnered with Grand Rapids Community College on several pipeline programs for middle and high school students and joined with the Hispanic Center of West Michigan to bring 60 Latino youth to campus for a college readiness program, Supporting Our Leaders (SOL).

Volleyball showcase offers chance to train officials, view action

Cornerstone University is hosting the sixth annual Summer Showcase, featuring 32 varsity teams and 24 junior varsity volleyball teams from across the state on Friday, July 22.

The varsity event is held at two sites, the Bernice Hansen Athletic Center on Cornerstone’s campus on the East Beltline at I-96, and the high school gymnasium at Forest Hills Northern. The junior varsity tournament will be at the Grand Rapids Community College’s Ford Fieldhouse. The scrimmage-formatted tournaments allow coaches to observe their potential team members for the upcoming season, which begins on Aug. 19.
