New brewery deals with worker shortage despite Google-like space

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — In a tight job market, a new Grand Rapids restaurant is hoping to appeal to potential workers with perks that go beyond just their paycheck.

… The battle for labor has intensified as the shortage of hospitality workers has ratcheted up in recent years. The explosion of breweries and brew pubs has exacerbated the problem, says Dan Gendler, who teaches at and formerly oversaw Grand Rapids Community College’s acclaimed culinary education program.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Restaurant Week in Grand Rapids kicks off August 10. This year’s theme is “taste the city”. Restaurants in the area are putting the final touches on their menu items for the occasion.

… Restaurants will provide 3-course meals for $28. $1 from Restaurant Week meals sold during this year’s event will be donated to the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education Student Scholarship Fund at the Grand Rapids Community College.
