GRAND RAPIDS — Grand Rapids Community College student Sheldon Korcal says he’s been hooked on craft beer since downing one of Founder’s Brewing Company’s flagship beers the Dirty Bastard scotch-style ale.

GRAND RAPIDS — A statewide coalition of community colleges, including Grand Rapids Community College, is vying for federal grant dollars that would provide free tuition for students in key advanced manufacturing programs.

Flat River Medical trains aspiring medical workers

GREENVILLE — After working as a nurse for 10 years, Melody Teegardin decided to open Flat River Medical on Lafayette Street in Greenville in October 2015.

… Teegardin is also working on becoming a state testing center. Right now, the closest testing centers are at Grand Rapids Community College and in Mount Pleasant. Before she can become a testing center, she has make sure the basement meets the state-set standards.

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Smith healthy

COLUMBUS — Wide receiver Corey Smith’s career with the Ohio State Buckeyes could have ended when he broke his leg during a game against Indiana on Oct. 3 last season.

… Smith, a graduate of Buchtel High School in Akron, is in his fourth season with the Buckeyes and his sixth year of college. He played for Grand Rapids Community College in 2011. When that program was discontinued, he left for East Mississippi Community College in the small town of Scooba, Miss.
