GRBJ: Community college opening brewery in downtown Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – A college downtown is testing the theory that beer does make you smarter.

Grand Rapids Community College said today it will open Fountain Hill Brewery in downtown Grand Rapids located on the first floor of the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center, at 151 Fountain St. NE with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.

Top 10 finalists, Facebook award announced in Consumer’s Energy, ArtPrize student contest

WYOMING, MI – Consumer’s Energy announced the top 10 finalists in its annual SmartArt competition in coordination with ArtPrize, and a new People’s Choice Award on Facebook Tuesday, Sept. 20.

… Judges from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College with judge the competition. However, there could be two winners with the introduction of the Facebook contest.

MCC joins manufacturing articulation agreement

LANSING — Representatives from eight state community colleges — including Macomb Community College — met Sept. 8 for a press conference in Lansing to announce details of an articulation agreement.

… The coalition colleges also include Bay College in Escanaba, Grand Rapids Community College, Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Lansing Community College, Mott Community College in Flint, and Schoolcraft College in Livonia.

Women bridge gap in leading Kent, Ottawa county law enforcement

OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — While there’s nothing unique about women in law enforcement, it is rare to see them in leadership roles.

… Kent County’s Michelle LaJoye-Young and Ottawa County’s Valerie Weiss have nearly 50 years combined experience in law enforcement. The pair is among just three undersheriffs in the state of Michigan.

Retirement celebration for Cindy Peterson on September 26

Please join us in the Student Center’s second-floor multipurpose room from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, September 26, to celebrate with Cindy Peterson on her retirement! We’ll be having some appetizers and snacks and beverages. It should be a nice time, and we hope to see you there.

The deadline for the submission of grant applications for the Instructional Improvement & Professional Development (IIPD) Grants program is 4:30 p.m., October 7, 2016.
