LGBTQ students, others speak out against GRCC trustees’ transgender policy remarks

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Malcolm Joseph, a transgender student at Grand Rapids Community College, was among a dozen who spoke out Monday, Oct. 17, challenging remarks by a Board of Trustee member against the transgender bathroom policy.

NSF project advances students in STEM majors

The financial support students received through a National Science Foundation grant proved successful as nearly all of them graduated on time.

… Each student was assigned to a faculty member who served as a mentor and provided career guidance. Students were encouraged to complete high-impact experiences, such as conducting research or attending a professional development conference. The group also partnered with Grand Rapids Community College to provide up to five scholarships each year to students who transferred to Grand Valley.

Fall Donuts and Cider!

Autumn days are here again! The sweet smell of fall swirls in the air and the leaves become a kaleidoscope of colors. Come enjoy what this crisp, colorful season has to offer with your co-workers! We will have fresh donuts, delicious cider, and an abundance of fall spirit at the Cider & Donuts open house on Thursday, October 20, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the ATC Atrium (Parking Level). There is no need to RSVP – just come on by. Students present summer research on October 19

All GRCC faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the GRCC Scholars Poster Presentation.  This event will take place on October 19 from noon – 4:00 p.m.

GRCC students who participated in summer research and traveled on a Study Away program will be presenting their work. Staff from Michigan Tech and the University of Michigan summer research programs will be at hand to provide information on their programs. We hope to see you there!

GRCC Foundation hosts Relational Beverage Scholarship fundraising dinner

On Friday, October 14, the GRCC Foundation and SICE held a one-of-a-kind interactive dining experience fundraiser. Guests were able to experience the GRCC Fountain Hill Brewery and enjoy a gourmet meal, prepared by students and faculty in GRCC’s Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. This interactive dinner featured five courses paired with a coffee, a wine, and a beer. Guests were entertained during dinner by a discussion led by a panel of beverage experts. Guest were then able to vote for their favorite beverage pairing.

The proceeds from this event will support SICE culinary and craft brewing student scholarships. Thank you to the SICE faculty and students for helping to make this event so successful!

APSS hosts brown sack decorating session for Kids’ Food Basket

Come and help GRCC’s Alliance of Professional Support Staff help Kids’ Food Basket decorate 75,000 brown sack supper bags this month!

What:  Decorate paper bags for Kids’ Food Basket – all supplies provided

When: Wednesday, October 19, noon to 2 pm

Where: First floor lobby of the Student Center

Why:  KFB serves nutritious evening meals every week night to nearly 7,500 children in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Holland, ensuring they have the nutrition they need to be their best, in school and in life. By decorating the bags they are packed in, we wrap those meals in love, support and encouragement.  Come have some fun and tell the kids you care!
