GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The community is invited to attend a forum for the five candidates running for three, six-year seats on the Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

MCC’s MAP+ apprenticeship program wins Automation Alley award

Macomb Community College’s Michigan Apprenticeship Program Plus (MAP+) was presented with Automation Alley’s 2016 Outstanding Educational Initiative Award at the organization’s Annual Awards Gala Oct. 14.

… MAP+ is a partnership between MCC and Grand Rapids Community College to develop and expand apprenticeship career pathways. The program spans from building awareness, including working with high schools and other organizations to link individuals to opportunities, providing pre-apprentice and apprenticeship training, matching employers and students, leveraging associate degree attainment and creating options for bachelor-degree completion. The program offers industry-driven, structured training that allows employers to develop current employees, as well as to interview and hire students.

Governor visits Middleville’s newest manufacturer

A major supplier to Bradford White has become an international company with its opening of a new facility in Middleville, and Gov. Rick Snyder welcomed them to West Michigan Friday afternoon.

… Snyder mentioned the access students and possible future Accurate Machine employees have to higher education, including Kellogg Community College and Grand Rapids Community College.

How a CMU professor turned old photographs into an LGBTQ perspective

Growing up queer in the ’90s, Kris Sanford didn’t have role models to look up to, or a relationship to mirror her own after so she decided to create one.

… Sanford’s work is currently being displayed in two locations in Michigan. “Open to Interpretation,” which is artist Thomas Allen and Sanford’s artwork, is being displayed at GRCC Collins Art Gallery in Grand Rapids until Dec. 2.  Her work is also being displayed as part of “enLIGHTENED” in the CMU University Art Gallery until Nov. 19.
