Grandville Public Schools, MI — Senior Cahari Rhodes is sure of a few things about his post-high school plans: find a school with a strong performing arts program and pursue a career that involves music and dance.

… For session four, Francisco Ramirez, admissions and enrollment coordinator at Grand Rapids Community College, led a talk on all things GRCC, including how and where to apply for financial aid, why it’s important to keep up your grades, transferring to a four-year institution and GRCC programs and classes.

Veterans Spotlight: From the Navy to the Coast Guard, Richard Vandepels has been all over

Richard Vandepels has spent his life in and out of the military, a total of 23 years, with the majority in the U.S. Coast Guard. He has served all over the world and has no problem recalling all the places he’s been and all the ways he served.

… Following this time served, attended Grand Rapids Junior College (now Grand Rapids Community College) where he received a degree in electronics technology. The economy had taken a downturn, and there were no jobs to be had. So, in 1975, he headed back to the Navy where he was stationed in Alameda, Calif. There he was in the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 85 for three years. “We would deploy once a year with a Canadian ship,” he recalled.
