… Bill Pink, vice president and dean of work-force development at Grand Rapids Community College, was appointed president. He will be the college’s first black leader.

… Grand Rapids Community College announced that it has joined the network of Fiat Chrysler-certified technical training sites. FCA US LLC, a North American automaker headquartered in Auburn Hills, established the Mopar Career Automotive Program LOCAL in partnership with the National Coalition of Certification Centers, or NC3, to train approximately 1,000 students annually. The partnership has a goal of building a talent pipeline of certified Chrysler Fiat automotive technicians across the country.

GRCC Volleyball’s Lauren Wieber named NJCAA DII All-American

Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC Volleyball’s sophomore OH Lauren Wieber (Grand Rapids, MI, Kenowa Hills (’15)) earned All-American honors after a stand out season recording 433 kills, 103 digs and 30 blocks while starting in 34 of 36 matches.

During his two-decade career in fundraising, Keith Hopkins has had a hand in more than 175 campaigns, most of them in the West Michigan region.

… Hopkins began his career in education, teaching at Grand Rapids Community College for four years and then Heartland Community College in Illinois for another four years, before joining Monaghan Associates, a fundraising firm in Grand Rapids.

 

 

Policies updated

The following policies have been updated or added and recently approved:

11.15 Purchasing Policy (revised):

  • Raising PO requirement from $1,000 to $2,500
  • Infrequent purchase of materials, equipment, goods, supplies or services of $2,500 and less may be made without the execution of a requisition and/or purchase order (was $1,000)
  • BOT to consent to purchases $25,000 and above as opposed to providing approval.
  • (3) Written competitive quotes required between $5,000 and $14,999 (was sealed at $9,999)
  • Formal sealed bidding procedures will be conducted on all purchases over $25,000 (was $10,000)
  • Emergency purchases exceeding $100,000 may be approved by the President or designee (VP of Finance and Administration) to guarantee the safety of students, staff and visitors. BOT approval was formerly required.
  • Competitive sealed (hardcopy or electronic) bidding on all purchases of goods and services over $25,000 will be conducted and bids will be advertised in the appropriate media (there are no departmental exceptions) (was $10,000)

Volleyball player Lauren Wieber named Honorable Mention All-American

Lauren Wieber, a 5’8″ sophomore outside hitter for GRCC’s volleyball team was named as a 2016 Honorable Mention All-American. The Raider volleyball team finished 10th in the country behind Lauren’s strong play. Wieber finished the year with 433 kills (3.31 per set), 103 digs and 30 blocks. The 2016 Raiders finished with a record of 28-8, a perfect 16-0 in conference.

Exam Cram starts this week

In collaboration with Academic Support & Tutoring and Student Alliance, the GRCC Library will be holding an expanded Exam Cram event this semester.

Come in during regular library hours, Monday, December 5, through Friday, December 9, to partake in quiet study, group study, and free refreshments!

Then, over the weekend before exams, on Saturday, December 10, and Sunday, December 11, take advantage of expanded tutoring services (limited subjects available), extended hours, and more free refreshments!
