2017 Giants Award winners to be honored as leaders in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College will honor and celebrate influential leaders in the African American community at its annual Giants Awards program scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at DeVos Place’s Steelcase Ballroom, 303 Monroe Ave. NW.

GRCC Players add performances of ‘Facing Our Truth’

Because of high ticket demand, the GRCC Players have extended their production of “Facing Our Truth”! Added performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Feb 2, 3 and 4 in the lab space theater (Room 201) at Spectrum Theater.

Thursday and Friday nights will include a talk back, facilitated by Sophia Brewer, to discuss issues raised in the play. Thursday night panel members include Dr. Kate Byerwalter, Dr. Bill Pink, and Dr. Ennis Young. Friday night panel members include Dr. Andre Fields, Rebeca Velazquez-Publes, and Jeremy Moore (Equity PAC).

Nominations sought for Student Leadership Banquet

Nominations are up for the Annual Student Leadership Banquet. Any member of Grand Rapids Community College (student, faculty, staff or Board of Trustee member) can nominate a qualified current GRCC student for a student leadership award. There is also the Jerry Benham Award for Staff and Faculty, which is awarded to any current GRCC staff or faculty member who has actively supported the leadership development of students. Nomination forms need to be received by the Student Life Office no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, for consideration. The Student Leadership Banquet is an annual event focused on recognizing the success and accomplishments of student leaders on campus. This year’s banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 5, at the L.V. Eberhard Center located on Grand Valley State University’s Pew Campus from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Registration for the banquet closes Friday, March 24th
