Perpetual growth fuels Switch

More than 1,000 contractors have had a hand in the Switch Pyramid campus in Gaines Township since legislation passed in December 2015 to bring the data center company to West Michigan.

Clothing line founders get creative

Last year, Jack VanGessel and three of his friends launched Southern Hound, a clothing line inspired by popular styles and culture originating from the South.

But a couple of months after the start of their new venture, the four business partners were beginning to feel dissatisfied with the amount of money they were paying for creative services. VanGessel, a student at Grand Rapids Community College, and co-founder Conor Conaboy, a student at Michigan State University, brainstormed ideas and concluded one day, it might be a fun endeavor to start their own creative agency. That day came sooner than they expected.

Our LGBT Fund raises $520,000 to support services in West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS — The growth of a fund established three years ago by a same-sex couple from Grand Rapids proves there’s interest in addressing issues the LGBT community faces in West Michigan.

… (Simon) Kittok, who works for Grand Rapids Community College, said the fund was created to offer more opportunities for transgender individuals to make good lives for themselves.

Excellence in Education nominations due today

The Excellence in Education Award was established in 1989 to honor an individual Grand Rapids Community College employee for his or her contributions to the college, higher education and the community. In 2000, the award was expanded to provide recognition in the form of a staff award, and a separate full-time faculty award. In 2010, an additional award was added for an exemplary adjunct faculty member.

The nomination deadline is Monday, May 15, 2017.

WMHIP information meeting on May 16

The WMHIP-Informational Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the ATC 168 Auditorium. Our Gallagher representative will be reviewing our current plan options and answering health insurance questions.  If you wish to make health plan enrollment changes, the Mid-Year Open Enrollment deadline is Friday, May 19, at 5:00 p.m.

Mid-Year Open Enrollment information and BC/BS resources can be found on our HR webpage.

You do not need to complete a mid-year open enrollment form if you want to maintain your current plan.

Honors Program workshop set for May 19

Faculty are invited to attend the Honors Program Workshop. The first workshop is scheduled for Friday, May 19, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. These workshops will help faculty become familiar with the new Honors Program and understand how you can participate through offering Honors Projects.
