Court decision affirms university’s right to ban guns

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The state Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that the University of Michigan can ban guns on its campus. It’s a decision that is sure to add fuel to the fire surrounding the intersection between gun rights and campus safety.

… Grand Valley State and Western Michigan universities along with Grand Rapids Community College all have bans on guns in their buildings and facilities. It’s a tradition that makes sense, according to Hurley.

Hope College receives $378K to help high school kids pursue degrees

HOLLAND, MI – Hope College’s Upward Bound Program has been awarded a federal TRIO programs grant totaling $378,121 to continue programming that provides academic skills and motivation for high school students in their pursuit of a post-secondary education.

… A number of schools offer Upward Bound programs in the state, including Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Western Michigan University and Muskegon Community College in West Michigan.

Service office open late on Tuesdays

Some GRCC service offices will be open late on Tuesdays during the summer:

  • Enrollment Center —  The last placement test begins at 5:30 p.m. The phones will be open until 6:45 p.m. Walk-in appointments will be accepted until 7 p.m.
  • Financial Aid — The phones are open until 6:45 p.m.; walk-in appointments will be taken until 7 p.m.
  • Counseling Center — Tuesday evening services include appointment scheduling. The phones are open until 6:45 p.m. You can walk in to make an appointment until 7 p.m.
