These 3 new Michigan childcare centers offer the most advanced facilities for children and adults

The latest research suggests that high-quality early childhood education has positive long-term effects that last well into adulthood. Unfortunately, demand for early education outstrips access to these facilities. And often the quality is poor.

… In 1974, Phyllis Fratzke, founder of the child development program at Grand Rapids Community College, brought young children and college students together to create learning experiences for both. In January, GRCC opened a brand-new facility, the Phyllis Fratzke Early Childhood Learning Laboratory, based on Fratzke’s education model.

Former WASP, other seniors get a chance to ‘soar like an eagle’

Jane Doyle, 95, stood on the tarmac at Sparta’s Paul C. Miller Airport recently looking at the 1942 Boeing Stearman biplane she had just taken a ride in.

… She graduated from Grand Rapids South High School in 1940 and knew then that she wanted to learn to fly. “The junior college (Grand Rapids Community College) had a flight school then, so I did the 70 hours of ground school there and then 30 hours of flight training at the Kent County Airport to earn my private pilot’s license,” she said.

Trial underway for man accused in 2016 murder on GRCC campus

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. (WZZM) – Testimony is expected to get underway Tuesday in the trial of a Grand Rapids man accused of killing a 34-year-old woman in a random attack on the Grand Rapids Community College campus more than a year ago.
