Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Carlos Pava of Grand Rapids to the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan.

… Pava is the COO of Voices for Health, Inc. He is a licensed trainer for the Community Interpreter International and a certified healthcare interpreter. Pava holds an associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Community College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and business administration from Michigan State University. He will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Osvaldo Rivera.

Even though they’ve moved away from their home towns doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten them. Here is the first in a series of where Ionia County athletes are and what they are doing.

… JOSIE MANION Saranac 2016

Josie is a guard for the Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) Raider basketball team. As a freshman, Josie played in 28 games. She averaged 26.4 minutes per game and tallied an average of 5.5 points. She had a field goal percentage . 245 and a free throw percentage of .571. She averaged 4.2 rebounds per game and she had 1.8 assists per game.

MADDIE ALBERT Lakewood 2016

Maddie took to the court as a freshman as a guard for the GRCC Raiders. She played in 26 games and averaged 26.9 minutes of playing time per game. Maddie averaged 6.5 points per game and had a field goal percentage of .318. She tallied a free throw percentage of .717 and tallied 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Grand Rapids Christian’s Jordyn Gates commits to Arkansas, and she’s only 14

Jordyn Gates made a trip to the University of Arkansas this summer, hoping to make a good impression on the school’s volleyball coaches during a day camp.

… Maddy Gates, who will be a senior at Christian in the fall, has verbally committed to Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. Their older sister, Taylor Gates, played volleyball at Grand Rapids Community College, while her brother, Brent Gates Jr., plays hockey at Minnesota and was drafted in the third round by Anaheim in 2015.
