Why Spectrum Health is teaching doctors about nutrition, cooking

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – In the bustling kitchen at the Downtown Market, Jenna Slaughter placed broccoli florets dipped in eggs and dusted in panko breadcrumbs on a sheet pan to bake Tuesday, Oct 3.

… Spectrum teamed up with Grand Rapids Community College to offer the new initiative that includes lectures and hands-on cooking classes. (Dr. Kristi) Artz teaches the class with Werner Absenger, chef and program director of GRCC’s Secchia Institute for Culinary Medicine and Krista Gast, a registered dietician.

‘End of Watch’ GRCC recruit class honors fallen trooper with shadowbox

The American flag that was presented to the family of Trooper Timothy O’Neill at his funeral was displayed in a beautiful, handcrafted shadowbox displaying his name, title and the date of his death.

… The brief but heartbreaking engraving and the creation of the shadowbox was done by members of the Grand Rapids Community College’s current recruit class and presented at the Rockford State Police Post Monday, September 25. That day was the visitation for the trooper who died the previous Wednesday after a motorcycle crash while on duty.

OJT Spotlight: Jamie Wellet

Jamie Wellet is a senior at Coldwater High School and enrolled in Business, Management & Marketing Technologies Program. Her OJT placement is the Images, Etc. Manager at the Branch Area Careers Center under the supervision of Miranda Townsend. As Manager, Jamie is responsible for screen printing, using sublimation, and embroidering apparel.

… Jamie’s plans to play volleyball at Grand Rapids Community College while she studies business and math after high school graduation. She is undecided about her future career. Jamie enjoys hanging out with friends, watching movies, and playing volleyball in her spare time.

Stantec Architecture earns two Celebration of Architecture awards from AIA Detroit

Stantec Architecture received two Celebration of Architecture awards from the American Institute of Architects Detroit (AIA Detroit.) The Genesee Career Institute in Flint, Michigan, and the Early Childhood Learning Laboratory in Grand Rapids, Michigan, earned two of the four awards in the New Building category.
