GRCC’s volleyball season ends in Regional Final

Port Huron, Mich. – The Raiders volleyball team’s season came to a close on Saturday afternoon in the NJCAA District F Regional Final, falling to #1 Owens Community College (Toledo, OH) 3-0. GRCC finished the season ranked #3 in the final regular season poll with a 27-3 overall record.

GRCC won the Western Conference Championship with a perfect 16-0 conference record, as well as the MCCAA State Championship that matches the best four teams in the state of Michigan against one another.

The sophomore class of Hailey DeKorte, Lauren Helsen, Peyton Helsen, Hannah Stearns and Lena Thompson finished their careers at GRCC as the only class to go undefeated in conference play, a perfect 32-0 and 55-11 overall.

Several Raiders earned post-season recognition for their regular season performances. Earning top honors, All-Region and All-MCCAA were freshman Kendra DeJonge and Sophomore Hannah Stearns. Four Raiders were named to the First Team All-Conference team: Kendra Dejonge, Hannah Stearns, Lauren Helsen and Ally German. Two more Raiders were honored as Second Team All-Conference performers: Peyton Helsen and Kayla Salyer. Freshman of the Year honors went to GRCC’s Kendra DeJonge, while Head Coach Chip Will was once again named Coach of the Year.
