Students get the lowdown on high-tech jobs

Dec. 12, 2017; schoolnewsnetwork.org (Kent Intermediate School District newsletter)

Rockford Public Schools, MI — Remington Switzer has been messing with computers for most of his life, loves gaming and is interested in a career in programming. But visiting a local website and apps development firm made him realize how many ways he could put his skills to use.

… He and other employees described their jobs and their circuitous routes to landing them. (Jeremy) Abrahams, 40, has a criminal justice degree from Grand Rapids Community College, and got into the field by being in “a crappy band that needed a website.”

Holiday Breakfast — this Friday!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces this Friday morning, December 15, for our annual Holiday Breakfast in the Ford Fieldhouse. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and don’t forget to wear your ugliest sweater!

As a reminder, donations are being accepted at the door to support our snack pantry. Specific items requested are individual-size oatmeal, chips, and fruit cups, but you are welcome to bring any snack items you’d like!

Toys for Tots is also being hosted by our Exercise Science Club. We’d be happy to accept any new, unwrapped toys as well!

See you there!

Volunteers needed for information stations

Student Life is looking for volunteers to help with the Information Stations that will be set up for the first three days of the new semester. This is a great way to start the semester and show our students that we support them.

Stations will be set up Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Jan. 8, 9 and 10) in three locations. The stations on the first floor of Sneden and the fourth floor of the Main Building will be open from 7:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. on all three days. The station at the second floor entrance of the ATC will be open from 5-6:15 p.m. each day.

You can sign up online.
