Three years ago, while sitting in her living room, April Reign watched as the nominees for the 87th Oscars were named. All 20 of the acting category nominees were white men or women and the behind the scenes nominees weren’t any better.

… Reign is coming to Grand Rapids on Monday as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Day Celebration being hosted by Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College, Davenport University and Opera Grand Rapids.

“I Dream” takes audiences on journey of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Opera Grand Rapids will take part in an in-concert version of Douglas Tappin’s “I Dream,” which recalls the last 36-hours of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.s life through his memories and recollections.

The production is being presented at Fountain Street Church on Monday, Jan. 15, as part of the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, which is being hosted by Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College, Davenport University and Opera Grand Rapids.

LaughFest adds John Mulaney, Rik Roberts and more

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Gilda’s LaughFest has added several artists and shows including John Mulaney andRik Roberts to the March 818 community-wide festival of laughter in advance of individual tickets going on sale Friday, Jan. 12. Tickets will go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com (search LaughFest), the Van Andel Arena & DeVos Place Box Offices or by visiting laughfestgr.org.

… For children of all ages, Super Saturday Kids Zone is a themed carnival for kids featuring surprise guests, inflatable activities, dancing, kid friendly music and games, and will return for LaughFest 2018 on March 17 at Grand Rapids Community College from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
