Mich. colleges find success with pathways

Community colleges in Michigan have made significant progress in redesigning programs and services to help students succeed through the implementation of career pathways.

… In one example from the report, Grand Rapids Community College has developed 10 pathways that include both career and transfer programs, plus a pathways degree for students who haven’t yet identified a major. Students in this program are prompted to enroll in a set of Priority 1 courses, including math and English composition. There’s also a pathways degree with a business concentration for students interested in business but undecided about a specific program.

Jets basketball teams both win against Grand Rapids

Teamwork did the job for the Jackson College Jets women’s basketball team in its victory over Grand Rapids Community College Raiders Saturday, 64-54.

LaughFest 2018 will include more than 100 free events

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – With the festival just one month away, Gilda’s LaughFest announced the eighth annual event will offer more than 100 free events, including LAUGHsketball, the first annual LaughFest basketball game, and returning events such as People & Pets.

… People & Pets will be returning for LaughFest this year on March 18. Participants are encouraged to bring their furry (or not so furry) friends to the Grand Rapids Community College Ford Fieldhouse from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to celebrate how funny pets can be. There will be contests for best costume, best pet trick, best look-a-like and most unique pet. Winners in each category will receive a trophy and a prize bag filled with goodies. Registration for contests will be from 11 a.m. to noon, and contests will start at 12:30 p.m.

How will you celebrate Valentine’s? Have you considered registering as a potential bone marrow donor? For many, a bone marrow donation from a matching donor is their best chance of fighting blood cancer.

Ready to join? All you need is to:

  • be between the ages of 18 – 44
  • be committed and willing to donate to any patient in need, if called
  • meet basic health guidelines
  • swab the inside of your cheeks and fill out a brief consent form

Will You Marrow Me? Bone marrow donor registration drive. Feb. 12 and 15. GRCC Dental Assisting students will be hosting the Will You Marrow Me GRCC bone marrow donor registration drive. We are partnering with Michigan Blood and Be The Match, the nation’s largest bone marrow drive registry. Monday, Feb. 12, 8-11 a.m. The donor drive will be held on the 1st floor of the Student Activity Center; tables will be outside the office of Student Life. Thursday, Feb. 15, 8-11 a.m. Location is 4th floor Main; tables will be next to the elevators and Art Gallery.
