QPR-Question. Persuade. Refer. Training

Monday, March 12, 2018 (11:00 am-12:00 pm)

QPR is used to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. It is believed that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer – the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (2001), a gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers can be anyone, but include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.


ADA for Supervisors

Thursday, March 15, 2018 (3:00 – 4:00 pm)

This course will review basics of the Americans with Disabilities Act, including college responsibilities that are relevant to supervisors, how to recognize an accommodations request, and the process GRCC follows. Key objectives to the workshop:- Become more familiar with ADA requirements for the college – Identify accommodations requests- Recognize concerns that need to be elevated to HR- Identify concerns that may arise when dealing with disability as related to job role, performance, etc.


Family Together & Connectedness

Friday, March 16. 2018 (10:00 – 11:00 am)

It is hard to be active as a family if we aren’t even connected, or together. In this workshop, learn some strategies on how to spend more quality time with your children, have stronger conversations with your children and have rituals that are sacred and vital to the health of your family. Learn the different personality types of parenting and how you can use those strengths to foster more meaningful relationships at home. This is a relevant topic no matter the make-up of your family!


Screening Committee Training

Tuesday, March 20, 2018 (1:30 – 4:00 pm)

This learning session is designed to brief all screening committee team members regarding their roles and responsibilities in the search process. Topics that will be covered include: A) Overview of Search Process; B) Position Approval Process; C) Recruitment/ SAAR Notebook Review Including: 1. Screening Committee & Leadership Roles; 2. Candidate Screening/ Recruitment Solutions Training; 3. Interview Questions, Presentations/Demonstrations; 4. Diversity Considerations and Goals; 5. Effective Evaluation Tools and Consensus Decision-Making; 6. Human Resources Responsibilities. Learning Objectives: Participants will understand their role in the selection of excellent candidates for staff and faculty positions and the hiring objectives and legal parameters for assessing and recommending future staff and faculty members.
