In Michigan, Grand Rapids Community College students are preparing for exams with the help of an unusual resource: a laptop vending machine.

Curtis Davison commits to Livingstone College

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Curtis Davison has committed to play basketball at Livingstone College next season.

Davison averaged 24.4 points per game at Grand Rapids Community College this winter, which was fourth in NJCAA Division 2.

Funeral services set for celebrated pastor with 55-year career

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Funeral services are Saturday for a well-known and revered Grand Rapids pastor who had a 55-year career behind the altar.

… (The Rev. Clifton) Rhodes led Messiah Missionary Baptist Church for 45 years and in 2015 was awarded the Grand Rapids Community College’s Giant Among Giants award.

West Michigan’s Jubal Brass to appear in concert on April 29

Jubal Brass, an 18-member brass choir, will present an evening of worship through Christian music at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Georgetown Bible Church, 4114 Baldwin St., Hudsonville.

… Jubal Brass has a long history of leaders with notable music credentials. Tuba player Paul Hoelzley, co-founder of Jubal Brass, directed the ensemble for two years until he resigned to teach at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in Cleveland. The other co-founder, John Scripps, then directed for two years until Charlie Buffham took over the baton. Buffham was a music teacher at Grand Rapids Community College, and served as both conductor and arranger for Jubal Brass. John Varineau then came to Michigan as a music professor at the Grand Rapids Baptist College (now Cornerstone University) and as the assistant conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony. He directed Jubal Brass for 15 years.

Summer wellness schedule now available

Summer is coming! It may not feel like it now, but it is, and so are our summer wellness classes! Enjoy a week off to help our students celebrate all their hard work this year, then jump right into summer wellness starting April 30th! We have something for everyone. So please, check out the schedule, grab a friend, and come sweat!

As always, there’s no need to sign up – just show up and see what the fun is all about. You are welcome to bring your spouse, child over 18, or friend(s) to these classes. Non-GRCC participants are asked to pay a small $20 fee per semester. All are welcome!

**Please note wellness classes will not be held on May 28th or the week of July 2-6 in observance of holidays.**
