MAPA announces 2018 MAPA Educational Development Scholarship Fund recipients

MAPA is pleased to announce the recipients of MAPA’s 2018 Educational Development Scholarship Fund have been chosen by Lansing’s Capital Region Community Foundation. Three (3) $1,000 scholarships were awarded, in addition to a $500 scholarship for the recipient of the 2018 Jud Morrison Memorial Achievement of Excellence Award. MAPA congratulates these very deserving students:
… Brooke Peckham, Sponsored by Auto-Wares Group of Companies located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Brooke will be a Junior enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the fall of 2018 majoring in Human Resources Management to support the growing Car Care Industry. Brooke is the daughter of Charles and Merriea Lubben of Cedar Springs, Michigan. Brooke’s MAPA Educational Development Scholarship Fund scholarship is in conjunction with the University of the Aftermarket Foundation who supports careers within the automotive aftermarket industry field.
Brooke Peckham also was awarded the distinguished 2018 Jud Morrison Memorial Achievement of Excellence Award named in memory of MAPA co-founding father and past chairman of the board of directors, Justin H. Morrison. Brooke’s academic achievements and outstanding community service record exemplifies the high standards and commitment to excellence that Jud Morrison stood for.
Grandville Wins OK Red Conference Outright

The Grandville Bulldogs (22-4, 13-3) claimed an outright OK Red Conference Championship on Tuesday with a 10-0 victory over the East Kentwood Falcons on Senior Night. The Bulldogs shared the title last season but the twelve returners (nine seniors) from last season didn’t want to share this year. Grandville has posted a 13-3 conference record with two league games left on the schedule.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson addresses trends and concerns for ‘boomers’ on bikes

Noting their disproportionate involvement in crashes, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson today encouraged baby boomers who ride a motorcycle or are thinking about it to take a returning-rider safety course, even if they rode in their younger days.
… The Michigan Rider Education Program first offered a three-wheeled vehicle safety course through a public sponsor in 2015. This year, in a pilot program with Can-Am, 12 Can-Am Spyders have been loaned to three-wheeled vehicle rider education courses at Grand Rapids Community College and Schoolcraft College. Three-wheeled vehicle safety courses are also available through select private sponsors listed on the Michigan Rider Education Program training locator Web page.
Middle school girls receive empowering messages at Beautiful U

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) – If you could go back, what would you tell yourself in middle school? Empowering mind, body, and soul is what Maranda’s Beautiful U is all about! 140 seventh and eighth grade girls from five school districts across West Michigan came together for an afternoon of fun and education.
… An exciting part of Beautiful U is the tasty food and snacks! Secchia Institute for Culinary Education, Meijer, and Milk Means More partnered up to educate girls on what they need to fuel their bodies. Calcium and protein are extremely important for girls in the developmental teen and pre-teen years. With snacks like yogurt and cheese, girls got a healthy (and yummy) boost of nutrients they need.
