Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame names 2018 class

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame has announced its inductees for 2018.
The class includes:
… Longtime Grand Rapids Community College basketball coach Gene Paxton. In 25 years, he racked up more than 500 wins and five league championships. He’s also a member of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame.
… Carl Paganelli Sr., Carl Pagenelli Jr., Perry Paganelli and Dino Paganelli are being named the Outstanding Team Honorees. The father and three sons are all football officials. All three sons have officiated Super Bowls.
(This article doesn’t mention it, but Carl Paganelli Sr., Carl Paganelli Jr., Perry Paganelli and Dino Paganelli are all GRCC alumni.)

Locals appointed to campus sexual assault group

LANSING — Three Holland-area residents are now members of Gov. Rick Snyder and First Lady Sue Snyder’s work group on campus sexual assault.
… Grand Valley State University Police Department Chief Brandon DeHaan was reappointed to the campus sexual assault work group, along with Kimberly DeVries of Hudsonville. DeVries serves as the Title IX coordinator and director of equal opportunity compliance at Grand Rapids Community College.

Future Fair brings career info to field house

The world is your oyster, and many possible paths can lead to your passion. That was the message more than 2,000 students learned at the recent East Kentwood Future Fair as they perused booths staffed by representatives from 30 colleges and universities, more that 70 career vendors and four branches of the military.
… “It benefits us because, a lot of times, you never get an inside look at what businesses do,” said East Kentwood High School senior AJ Sims, who hopes to go to Western Michigan University or Grand Valley State University after two years at Grand Rapids Community College, to major in performance and drama.
… Senior Nia Lillard, who plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College but is undecided about her career path, said the fair was a great way to see what’s out there.

Consumers Energy, Grand Rapids Public Schools Announce Finalists for Sixth Annual Student Art Competition

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., May 31, 2018 /3BL Media/ — Organizers have announced the 10 finalists out of nearly 50 entries from Grand Rapids Public Schools student artists who will have their energy-related art work highlighted during this falls ArtPrize competition through collaboration with the school district and Consumers Energy.
… The Top 20 were selected by Grand Rapids Public Schools officials. The 10 finalists were then judged by a panel of art professionals from Kendall College of Art & Design at Ferris State University, Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University.  The top winner and the winner of a people’s choice online contest are scheduled to be announced during the ArtPrize Final 20 announcement on Sept. 30 at Rosa Parks Circle, sponsored by Consumers Energy.
