Bookstore hiring for fall rush

GRCC’s bookstore is hiring for the fall rush! We need cashiers, text associates and online order processors.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College officials announced Wednesday, July 25, that the school joined Kent County’s SafeMeds program and has a drop box at campus police headquarters.

Holland schools, Davenport University partner on early college

HOLLAND, MI – Beginning the 2018-19 school year, Holland Public Schools will partner with Davenport University for students to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree through early college.
… Grand Rapids Community College is the only other Kent County institution offering the degree and certificate programs to high schoolers.
GRCC has programs in the Kent and Ottawa ISDs and the Grand Rapids, Cedar Springs, Wyoming, and Kentwood districts. The program at East Kentwood High School launches this school year.

GVSU-MSU Partner To Address Physician Shortage

Grand Valley State University pre-med students will soon benefit from a new agreement signed this week by GVSU and Michigan State University.  The partnership grants pre-med students early assurance of admission into the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.
… Grand Valley and Grand Rapids Community College entered a similar agreement with MSUs College of Human Medicine in 2012.

Grand Rapids has appointed a new commissioner for the city’s Third Ward.
… In addition to being a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, (Nathaniel) Moody is senior pastor of Brown Hutcherson Ministries. He also serves on the Children’s Advocacy Council, Grand Rapids Community College Foundation Board and Grand Rapids Area Association of Pastors.
(This article doesn’t mention it, but Nathaniel Moody is also a GRCC alumnus.)

He is a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids and has been married to his wife, Laura Moody, for 39 years. The couple have four children and four grandchildren.

The City of Grand Rapids has a new commissioner at City Hall. Tuesday evening, the Grand Rapids City Commission voted to hire Nathaniel Moody after an extensive candidate search. Moody fills the 3rd Ward seat vacated by David Allen in June.

Teens compete for curb appeal at two Benton Harbor apartment complexes

BENTON HARBOR — Teens at two Benton Harbor apartment complexes could be seen Wednesday feverishly trimming hedges, pulling weeds and sweeping up trash and debris as they took part in the Battle of the Properties between River Terrace Apartments and Brunson Hill Homes.
… “A lot of it involves speaking in front of other people and being professional and showing us how the world really works,” said (T.J.) Jones, who plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College this fall on a basketball scholarship.

Public invited to open house highlighting public transit service improvements along Michigan Street corridor

The public is invited to join community, business and civic leaders at an open house Monday, July 30, to learn details about the Aug. 27 launch of plans to significantly improve the Interurban Transit Partnership (The Rapid) Route 19 service along the Michigan Street corridor, as well as plans to improve the DASH service provided by the City’s Mobile GR and Parking Services Department.
… The new fare-free Route 19 runs along the Michigan Street corridor from Plymouth Street in Northeast Grand Rapids and continues west along Heritage Hill and the Medical Mile to the City’s near West Side along Bridge Street up to Stocking Avenue. The route includes stops near such anchor institutions as Spectrum Health, Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College, Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine and Meijer’s soon-to-open Bridge Street Market.
