Grand Rapids New Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory Will Train Next Generation

The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Laboratory located in downtown Grand Rapids on at Western University Michigan opened on Sept. 19. It occupies 15,000-square-feet but houses a lot of dreams.
A collaborative effort between the Grand Rapids Community College and West Michigan manufacturers, it aims to serve as a program to cultivate the next generation of engineers, designers and other skilled individuals to serve the manufacturing industry.

Western Michigan University is opening a new lab for manufacturing students. The $3 million facility opened its doors earlier this week on Ionia and Cherry Street in downtown Grand Rapids. Just a year ago, the university announced a collaboration with Grand Rapids Community College and West Michigan manufacturers addressing industry needs. The facility will include opportunities for students to earn college credits in prototyping, training, small-scale manufacturing. The president of GRCC says that the program will benefit the community and students in the area for the future. Bill Pink, GRCC president: “This is a collaboration of people and organizations that got together and said, ‘We need to do more in the area of advancing manufacturing in West Michigan because we all know the talent need is huge and it’s not going away tomorrow.'”
Kalamazoo-based WMU Opens Manufacturing Lab in Downtown Grand Rapids
Kalamazoo’s Western Michigan University Wednesday announced it has opened its 15,000-square-foot AMP Lab in downtown Grand Rapids.
The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Laboratory comes a year after the university announced a collaborative effort with Grand Rapids Community College and western Michigan manufacturers to address talent needs in the manufacturing industry.

Starting today, their mobile offices will visit state universities across the state, offering voter registration and other services to students, faculty and staff and area residents.
