Lumberjacks run like the wind at Firebird Classic

GRAYLING — When the weather is awful and the course is extremely tough, the 2018 Alpena Community College Cross-Country team seem to run their best. With wind gusts up to 30 mph along with the cold and rain, the Lumberjack men ran one of their best races in team history. ACC took third place overall out of eight teams Friday night at the Kirtland Firebird Classic held at Hanson Hills in Grayling. The Lumberjacks finished behind nationally ranked Lansing Community College and Grand Rapids Community College while beating Kellogg CC, St. Clair CC, Oakland CC, Kirtland CC and Wayne County CC.

Hope College’s Brett Slayton has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
The sophomore from Holland, Michigan (Hamilton HS) recorded a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 21 seconds to lead the Flying Dutchmen at the Grand Rapids Community College Invitational on Saturday at Prairie Wolf Park in Caledonia, Michigan.

Hope College’s Brett Slayton has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
The sophomore from Holland, Michigan (Hamilton HS) recorded a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 21 seconds to lead the Flying Dutchmen at the Grand Rapids Community College Invitational on Saturday at Prairie Wolf Park in Caledonia, Michigan.

Petoskey’s Hoffman, Kartes earn high marks for NMU, GVSU

… Rochester College junior and Boyne City graduate Dominic Santina finished 95th with a time of 27:18.9 at the Grand Rapids Community College Invite on Saturday.
… Charlevoix native and Aquinas freshman runner Ben Peterson took 110th at the Grand Rapids Community College Invite on Saturday. Peterson finished the race with a time of 27:55.5 to help Aquinas place 1st overall as a team.
