GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Parents and caregivers in the Kent County area can attend these learning groups to better prepare their children for a positive start to the school year.
…Grand Rapids Public Schools, Kent First Steps, and Grand Rapids Community College are partnering up to create Early Learning Communities Play and Learn Groups. Representatives with Play and Learn say the groups support community-based learning experiences and strengthen familial relationships.

In yet another thriller in the Raider/Jayhawk rivalry, GRCC takes down #17 Muskegon Community College to take back control of the MCCAA-West Conference. For the 12th time since 2007, the match would come down to a decisive fifth set, and for the seventh time, the Raiders would come away winners.

The Grand Haven boys tennis and girls golf teams, along with the Fruitport and Western Michigan Christian cross country teams, competed in pivotal regular season events on Tuesday and Wednesday. Here’s a recap of how each team performed.
…”The teams were all very close, and I am very happy the way the kids handled the wind overall and the darkness at the end of the day,” said Grand Haven head coach Chris Wilton. “We played GRCC in August and the scores overall were better today than back then. In the second match against Whitehall, most of the team started off slowly, but they all found another gear and competed very well overall in the end.”

Every month the Information Security Team releases a newsletter containing information for GRCC students, staff, and faculty regarding Information Security Awareness. This month’s issue includes topics such as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, mobile phone security, and more.
This is the 15th year since National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) began. Each week there is a new topic to learn about and newsletter to read via links on GRCC’s Security Awareness webpage.
Values Forward: Uncover & clarify your values, allowing them to infuse your work, guide your decisions and ground you in the ways you speak and show up in your life. This interactive course provides space for connection with your true essence, building forward momentum to more aligned living in your work and your relationships. Scheduled on Tuesday, October 9, from 3:30-5 p.m. on the Main Campus.
Professional Development Workshop – Signs of Marijuana Use: Scott Nuismer, a certified addictions specialist, will teach both how to recognize the markers of marijuana use and what you can safely do about it. Participants will learn how to recognize biological and physiological sign of marijuana use, as well as interventions to use. Scheduled on Wednesday, October 10, from 1-2 p.m. on the DeVos Campus.

The Mental Health and Wellness Fair is a one-stop shop for a wide range of resources available at GRCC and in Grand Rapids as a whole. The event is Tuesday, October 9, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Raider Grille (2nd Floor, Student Center).
We will have representation from community organizations that assist with mental health, substance abuse, food and housing insecurity, sexual/domestic violence, and many more! We will also be visited by the West Michigan Therapy Dogs, a henna artist, and have a number of giveaways including stress balls and more!

Next Monday, October 8, the GRCC Faculty Association is hosting a presentation by the group Voters Not Politicians. This open forum will begin at 4 p.m. in 108 Sneden.
According to its website, Voters Not Politicians is a nonpartisan, grassroots group working to pass Proposal 2, which would amend the state constitution to change Michigan’s redistricting process.
This session is open to all GRCC employees, students, and the greater community. Registration is not required.
