Ivy Tech Names Vice Chancellor, Dean

Ivy Tech Community College has named John Cowles vice chancellor for student success for its Indianapolis campus. He previously served in a similar role for Grand Rapids Community College since 2013. During his time there, he was the lead for Achieving the Dream and Higher Learning Commission Persistence and Completion Academy work. Cowles also previously served as an advisory board member for the Michigan College Access Network since 2017. He has 19 years of experience at Grand Rapids Community College as a tenured faculty member, program director, associate dean and dean. In total, Cowles has 25 years of experience in higher education.

Michigan college campuses have protocols to ensure student and faculty safety

DEARBORN — Curious about how often students at Michigan’s colleges are robbed or busted for drug and alcohol abuse? While those may seem like primary problems to deal with, colleges are also taking many safety precautions to maintain student and faculty safety.
…Colleges that have taken the protocol into action include Grand Rapids Community College, Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, including the Dearborn and Flint campuses, and Western Michigan University.

Condolences to Nora Michael

We extend our condolences to Nora Michael on the passing of her husband William Michael Jr. of 34 years on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 8, 2018, at Gillespie Funeral Home, 1865 Eastern Ave. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49507 from 4-6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at East Leonard Christian Reformed Church, 1027 Leonard Street NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, family hour from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with funeral services and repast luncheon following.
