Restaurant Week yields $16,322 in scholarships

This years Restaurant Week, held Aug. 8 21, raised $16,322 from participating restaurants and sponsors. The money raised goes into an endowed fund, now totaling $159,428, to support culinary education in Grand Rapids through Grand Rapids Community College.
CVCC Volleyball’s National Tournament Pairings Set

The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team is seeded 10th heading into next week’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National tournament in Charleston, W.Va.
… The 10th-seeded Red Hawks (33-9) will face seventh-seeded Grand Rapids Community College (29-6) the Region XII/District F Champions during the first round of the national tournament on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.

Quick to react with words and fists, Farhiya Abdullahi became a regular in school administration offices. She spent many days suspended, and was eventually expelled.
… Farhiya plans to go to Grand Rapids Community College. She said she is interested in healthcare or social work.

Civitas Adds OER Search to Course Schedule Planner

A new open educational resources (OER) search tool has been directly integrated into Civitas Learning’s academic planning platform, letting students know if OER materials are available as they build their course schedules.
… Both the California State University system and Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan have piloted the search tech. College Scheduler was created by a CSU-Chico alumnus and runs in nearly every CSU campus. CSU also runs MERLOT, a major project to make OER materials available to its faculty.
