College, careers and their dreams — focus of Latino Youth Conference

Even though he’s got four years of high school ahead of him, Alan Ramos, an eighth-grader at Wyoming Junior High School, says college is already part of his plan for the future.
… Ramos was among several hundred eighth-graders who braved slippery roads and blustery winds recently to attend the 20th Annual Latino Youth Conference at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse at Grand Rapids Community College.

Dr. Laurie Chesley hired as COCC’s new president

BEND, Ore. – Dr. Laurie Chesley has been named the new president of Central Oregon Community College. The COCC board of directors voted 6-0 Tuesday evening to hire Chesley as only the sixth president in the college’s 70-year history.
… Chesley is the provost and executive vice president for academic and student affairs at Grand Rapids (Michigan) Community College. She taught English at a variety of higher education institutions for 14 years, including five years of full-time teaching at Northwestern Michigan College.

More than 160 higher education institutions from coast-to-coast gather in Orlando from March 17 – 20, 2019, for the 6th Annual DigarcU User Conference. Over 270 DIGARC software users will obtain certifications, enjoy thought leadership sessions and connect with fellow education professionals at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Orlando.
… “This is my sixth DigarcU and each conference has gotten better,” says Deb Dewent, Assistant Director of Instructional Support for Grand Rapids Community College. “I look forward to connecting with my colleagues and hearing about best practices for DIGARC software. Plus, I love coming to sunny Florida in March.”

Bear Lakes May to play softball at GRCC

Ionia County ISD super appointed to community foundation board

IONIA — An Ionia County schools leader has been named to the advisory board of a community foundation that allocates grant money to local organizations.
… (Ethan) Ebenstein has a bachelor of arts degree from Aquinas College and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University. Ebenstein and his wife, Julie, have two sons: Trevor, a high school junior, and Logan, a sophomore at Grand Rapids Community College.
